Desde los años sesenta los profesores ALFONSO RIVAS SALMÓN de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, México, y CECILIO OROZCO de la Universidad Estatal de California en Fresno, EEUU, han llevado a cabo una serie de investigaciones respecto uno de los símbolos más representativos de la tradición mexicana: LA PIEDRA DEL SOL.
Durante varios años los investigadores Rivas y Orozco han desarrollado una serie de actividades que han culminado en una teoría que explica cuál podría haber sido el origen de las Américas; especialmente el origen de los antiguos mexicanos.
Parte importante de ese hallazgo tiene que ver con la explicación del simbolismo de la piedra del Sol, incorrectamente llamada “calendario azteca”, pues como los investigadores aseguran “no es azteca porque no proviene de aztlán y no es calendario porque no predice los días”.
Este extraordinario monolito tiene como nos enseñan los investigadores Rivas y Salmón, una relación con los ciclos del planeta Venus (astro que simboliza a Quetzalcóatl en la mitología mexica) y con la historia de la grandes migraciones de los antiguos mexicanos; hechos que están grabados en la piedra del Sol.
Este espacio representa un sitio de difusión de dichas investigaciones así como de la cultura mexica. Es una propuesta también que propone el estudio del pasado de la nación mexicana.
